“One discovers the light in darkness, that is what darkness is for; but everything in our lives depends on how we bear the light. It is necessary, while in darkness, to know that there is a light somewhere, to know that in oneself, waiting to be found, there is a light.”
James Baldwin
LOVE IS TO BE HAPPY WITH
A loving intention is the most powerful spiritual force in the world.
What does the word Love mean to you?
Where do you look for happiness in your life?
“In Huna, love is the creation of happiness.”
— Serge King
How often do we truly meet that place of deep happiness?
And how much attention do we give to savoring it fully?
When we can come into this beautiful, energetic place of Love—of Happiness—we discover that we can handle anything life brings. We become more open, more responsive to all aspects of ourselves. There is an openness, a frequency alive within us, that allows life to flow fully. Suddenly, the resources we need are already within reach. We have everything required to meet life’s challenges.
Love is not a reward for anything; it is who we are.
This principle took me time to embrace. As a child, I learned about Love in many ways, but only now, in a moment of contemplative awareness, does the power and truth of this principle shine light on how often it had been shadowed or blurred. It has invited me into an inward journey, exploring what Love and Happiness truly mean for me, here and now.
How do we fill ourselves with the Love and Happiness that comes from within? How do we connect to the flowing energy that lives inside us?
When I envision this, I see myself standing before a flowing stream, clearing away a few large rocks that had blocked the water from moving freely. As the water begins to flow again, I feel my breath deepen, and a smile emerges from within me. In that moment, I realize that this gift does not depend on rewards, conditions, or material objects outside of myself. It is not in the outer world that this is found.
It lives in healing and reawakening the truth within.
Love is to be happy with.
Coming into this awareness is only the beginning of the work of healing. It is the start of meeting past experiences that once felt misguided, seeing the teachings they held, and, in gratitude for these awakened gifts of wisdom and understanding, letting go of the old stories that kept us out of the flow of our truth.
Once upon a time, there was an elderly woman who walked to the river every morning to fetch water for drinking, cooking, and cleaning. She carried two buckets: one new, perfectly sealed, holding water flawlessly, and one older, with thin cracks that let water leak onto the ground. By the time she returned home, about one-third of the water in the cracked bucket had always leaked away.
One day, the cracked bucket spoke to the woman.
“I want you to know I’ve been leaking water every morning for years. I’m sorry for being cracked and making your life harder. I understand if you need to replace me with a better bucket.”
The elderly woman smiled. “Do you really think I haven’t known about your cracks all this time?” she asked. “Look at all the beautiful flowers that grow along the path from my cottage to the riverbank. I planted the seeds, but it is you who waters them every day.”
The cracks, the woman realized, were not flaws—they were the source of life and beauty along the path.
Choose to see the flowers in the cracks of your own life. It is these very cracks—the challenges, the scars, the vulnerabilities—that let the light in. They are what make you uniquely you. Love is to be happy with the wholeness of who we are. It is to embrace the wisdom, lessons, and beauty that come from being fully human.
In this awareness, we see that the flow of Love and Happiness does not come from outside ourselves. It lives in the healing, the acceptance, and the reawakening of truth within. And just as the cracked bucket waters the flowers, our imperfections are the channels through which life’s beauty can enter and bloom.
Everything is a symbol, even the most piercing pain. We are dreamers who shout in our sleep. We do not know whether the things afflicting us are the secret beginning of our ulterior happiness or not.
