Moving into the world of elements within Huna Healing

Air, Fire, Water, Earth, Ether.

Makani, Ahi, Wai, Hanua, I’o

Working with the Elements in Huna healing.

Part of my Huna training is working with the elements. Learning how to flow these Elements through the body to another person, to assist in healing and rebalancing. Being someone who loves nature and has spent a great deal of time wandering in nature, sitting in nature, exploring in nature, working with the elements felt very welcoming and very natural. It brought another layer of energy, and awarness to my Huna healing sessions.

So where does this relationship with the elements begin?

Let me take you through the Elements as expressed through Huna Healing.

Makani : Air

Ahi : Fire

Wai (Vi) : Water

Hanuan : Earth

I’o : Ether

I will begin with an overview on each Element, and then I will share my own insight and experiences that I had, as I took time to work with each Element individually. Hopefully just enough to awaken curiosity, and inspire your, on your own exploration with the Elements…

The way we work with these Elements is by connecting and then flowing the element to the other person. This is done through energy, and visualization, you visualize the symbol while you flow the energy to the person.

Each Element is very distinct, and the best way to experience them is to work with them individually.

Air ( Makani)

Is a great place to begin

Air is the call to movement, that we have the ability to move and flow. It can guide us out of those stuck moments, by creating space through movement. Air is a very active energy. air is where the beginning of an idea comes to life.

When we are feeling stuck, and those creative ideas are just not flowing, working with air can help to call in the energy and inspiration you are needing.

Fire( Ahi)

Fire is electric, it calls us to attention, fire does not work alone it requires, Oxygen, fuel, heat and a chemical reaction.

It is masculine, assertive, expressive, it creates desire awakening passion.

This is the element we call on when we need to shake things up when we are really ready for change.

Water ( Wai-pronounced Vi)

This is a nurturing energy supporting our emotional nature. This is a Feminine energy, very supportive, very calming, and soothing. Water is a true reminder, that no matter what is happening around us there is always a stillness within, just below the surface.

Water is a beautiful calming energy, when someone has allot of anxiety and they are worrying allot. Water can take them back to that place of stillness and also help to bring in some gentle movment, to get things flowing again.

Earth ( Honua)

Mother of all creation

A source for all that is needed on this physical plane, it is that fertile energy that also offers support, nourishment, rest, and growth. It is the balancing energy, when your feeling out of sorts and really out of balance, working with the earth element will help to bring everything back into alignment.

Ether I’o

Spirit, Truth, Light

That which lies beyond physical consciousness, a unifying Element.

Emptiness, nothingness, absolute stillness.I’o is the second balancing element. when we can reach this place, and be with the stillness, the emptiness, the light, to be with spirit, our body moves into rest, and its own natural flow, and has the opportunity to heal.

Each one of these elements is flown into different parts of the body, when charging and balancing our own bodies before healing, but that is better experienced in demonstrating and participating in the exercise. What I can tell you is the biggest part of learning about these elements is, the experiencing of them. There is a gift in taking time to really experience each element on their own .

Air (Makani)

Working with Air has been really interesting. I have found that even in moments when my body is feeling tight and my breathing feels shallow I can take a moment and visualize the clear blue sky all around me, and I am enveloped by that blue sky and I become that blue sky and everything softens, and there is a feeling of open space, and in that open space, there is a feeling of ease. And I find in that experience there is a very deep calming effect that occurs. And with that feeling of calm, my awareness sharpens, I feel so much more present, more focused, more responsive to everything in that moment. All of a sudden my mind is clear and there is an openness for new ideas to begin to flow again. There is a clarity that guides me to an invitation to a question, What is the question you are needing an answer for?

I think there can be this uncertainty that drives us, and in that, we can forget to take a breath, and feel into the moment, taking the time to pause and ask, what do you need at this time? Is there a clear question? Because if there is, than we know there is an answer. And that answer can come through with our connection to Air.

Air is where the ideas begin its where those moment s of inspiration begin. When the mind is clear there is this awareness of space, and our whole world begins to open up.

Air is what lifts us out of those deep groves those narrow lanes we get stuck in sometimes.I hope that what I am sharing is a wonderful enticement, for you to explore this Element for yourself.

I find this is the Element I go to when I am feeling stuck and I am looking for guidance or inspiration.

Air has energy it has a kick in its step there is a feeling of movement. It’s where the beginning of a new idea takes place.

Fire (Ahi)

Fire, Expressiveness, desire, expansiveness, passion.

Now this is an element that calls in strength, attention, intention, conviction, and commitment.

What makes fire?

Oxygen, heat, fuel are frequently referred to as the fire triangle. Add the fourth element, the chemical reaction, and you have a fire “ tetrahedron”

The important thing to remember is that: take any of these four things away, and you will not have a fire, or the fire will be extinguished.

It is that Element that says you must attend to me.

Every element has its strength, its power, but fire, fire has a more assertive way of calling our attention.

It is the element to ignite the movement of change.

And change as we all know is not an easy process, it needs our full attention, its calls on our abilities, to let go of old patterns, old beliefs, moving us out of that trance state into full awareness, wakefulness.

As I write about fire I feel like I have those two lists going on in my mind the idea of pros and cons but also the idea of effort and reward.

In really spending time thinking about fire it began to take on so much meaning. Fire is not one thing, it is Dreams, and goals, and ideas, its action, its expansiveness, it radiates heat, and light, and movement, it isn’t something to take for granted, it isn’t passive it isn’t alone it is very alive.

And it is an element that is always there waiting for us.Ready to take part in clearing the way towards change, but we have to be ready, ready to tend the flame.

Fire is fuelled by those moments of Joy, moments of Success, moments of fulfillment. It calls us to the attention of our own inner power.

Our light our fire.

Water element Wei (Vi)

Water H2O

Water has many unique properties. The chemical formula of water H2O, meaning it is made up of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. The hydrogen atoms are attached to one side of the oxygen atom and have a positive charge where as the oxygen atoms has a negative charge. this polarizes the water molecule, much like a magnet, giving a water molecule positive and negative ends.

Working with the water Element, there is this lovely nurturing feminine energy, there is this softness, a gentleness, and also a feeling of fluidity. Water is connected to the moon, the moons influence is linked to the tides, affecting ocean currents.

For me water is about adaptability, water will always fill the space it is given. One of the biggest ways water speaks to me is through the awareness that water on the surface can be moved and shaped in different ways by the other elements around it, but under the surface there is a deep stillness that is always present.

It reminds me to take a breath and sink into that stillness, and what is beautiful is that stillness isn’t ridged, solid or stagnate, it allows all that is occurring, it is fluid, graceful and accepting, and within all of that it is still very powerful.

When life feels overwhelming and emotions are high, water is the Element to be with. It is a reminder that there is always a way forward, don’t shut off the water become the water let it teach you how to flow through anything, and create your own path.

Earth (Honua)

The Womb, the source, it is where we find our nourishment our resources, our home. It is a place of rest, renewal, growth, support, strength and balance. It is where we can plant our feet firmly and be present. It is this beautiful fertile energy where anything is possible.

When all of these Elements come together under the prefect conditions miracles happen. The Earth energy is a balancing energy it brings us back into harmony. When we are feeling out of balance too much air energy, too much fire energy, too much water energy, connecting to earth energy can bring that back into balance.

Earth is where I turn to when I am exhausted and ready to give up, I crave taking a blanket and just finding a quiet place somewhere under a tree where I can just curl up an fall asleep, I find it so nourishing.

Ether (I’o)

Spirit, Truth, light

Another balancing Element is I’O, it lies beyond physical consciousness, where truth lives within all that is. In those moments of pure stillness when we are empty and still we have become one with I’o

Our Truth

When all of these Elements come together under the prefect conditions miracles happen.

Being with the Elements, learning about them, working with each one, and writing about them, has been a wonderful experience for me. When we attend and give our focus to something new, something that awakens our curiosity, we can really enjoy the beauty of what they each have to share. It is through our own experiencing the we benefit the most.

I hope that this small introduction to the elements experienced through Huna healing, becomes an invitation to you as well, to explore, connect, and experience, the Elements.

How does becoming more aware of the elements within our bodies change the way we experience our environment outside of us as well as inside?
